Nailed 'Em: Mark Burdett

February 23, 2011

Anarchist (and independent journalist) Mark Burdett really had it coming when he was arrested by San Francisco police.

On the February 23, 2011 episode of The Colbert Report, Stephen covered the story of Burdett getting nailed for knocking over an officer's motorcycle -- which he SAYS he didn't do. Police fractured Burdett's thumb after they threw him to the ground, which was clearly justified given the crime he would be charged with...jaywalking.

Watch this "Nailed 'Em" segment from the show, and see for yourself.

Want to see the inner workings of the wheels of justice and find out if they crush the anarchy out of Burdett? We've got all the legal dirt, like this U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision on the matter, a juicy statement from the anarchist-coddling Civil Liberties Defense Center (which points out that Burdett was wearing a press pass issued by the very same police department that arrested him), and Burdett's petition to U.S. Supreme Court.

For a look at Burdett in police custody immediately following the incident, look at these photos of him looking like a scared little girl: One, Two, Three, and Four.

Now that you've got most of the facts, see what you think of the case's biggest piece of visual evidence with this raw, uncut footage from Burdett's own video camera. The lesson? Never get between a cop and his motorcycle and never, ever jaywalk.
